Client: Üsküdar Belediyesi
Project Type: Custom Typeface
Direction: Üsküdar Belediyesi
Sector: Public / Urban Identity
Üsküdar Belediyesi is one of Istanbul’s most historically rooted and culturally rich municipalities, serving a district where tradition, faith, and contemporary urban life meet. As the city evolves and digital public services continue to expand, the need for a unified and modern typographic identity became evident. One that could honor Üsküdar’s deep heritage while supporting a clear, accessible civic communication system.
Designed in 2025 by Fatih Hardal for Typografische, in collaboration with the design and communication team at Üsküdar Belediyesi, this custom typeface was developed to elevate the municipality’s visual language across print, environmental signage, and digital platforms.
From public service announcements, cultural event campaigns, metro and ferry guidance systems, to municipal applications and social media communication, the typeface ensures clarity, trust, and visual consistency across every touchpoint.
The type family includes multiple weights optimized for both display and text sizes. It was engineered to perform equally well in historic architectural contexts and modern urban interfaces. Its forms blend rational geometry with softened details, creating a refined yet welcoming tone. Letterforms are designed to enhance legibility in dense city environments, low-contrast signage conditions, and mobile screens.
This typeface reflects Üsküdar Belediyesi’s commitment to a modern civic voice rooted in cultural respect. Designed to feel timeless and human. Built to guide, inform, and connect the people of Üsküdar.
